Dr. Alexandre Kalache is the President of the International Longevity Centre-Brazil (ILC-Brazil) and a Global Ambassador for HelpAge International. He has a distinguished career in aging and health, having held research and teaching positions at the Universities of Oxford and London for nearly two decades. Dr. Kalache founded the Epidemiology of Ageing Unit at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 1983 and created the first European Master’s degree in Health Promotion in 1991.
From 1995 to 2008, he directed the World Health Organization’s global Ageing and Life Course Programme, where he launched the Active Ageing Policy Framework and the Age-Friendly Cities movement, among other impactful initiatives.
Dr. Kalache currently serves as a Senior Advisor at the New York Academy of Medicine and is a board member of several prestigious organizations, including the World Economic Forum and the Gulbenkian Foundation. He advises governments, civil society, and the private sector on aging issues globally, with a focus on promoting age-friendly policies and practices.
