Professor Jeffrey Mphahlele is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at North-West University. He holds a doctoral degree in Medical Virology, a master’s in virology, a BSc honours degree, and a degree in microbiology.

A C1 NRF-rated researcher since 2017, Professor Mphahlele is recognized for his expertise and active contributions to the scientific community. He serves on several governance and advisory bodies, including the Ministerial Advisory Committee on COVID-19 Vaccines in the Ministry of Health since 2020 and as the Vice President for Research at the South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) since 2014. He is also a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).

In addition to his leadership roles, Professor Mphahlele co-founded the South African Vaccination and Immunisation Centre in 2005 and served as its head until 2014. He has made significant contributions to the development of future scientists through the training, supervision, and mentoring of numerous Post-Doctoral, Doctoral, and Master’s students.
