Professor Mabel Bianco is the President and founder of FEIM, an NGO dedicated to improving women’s rights since 1989. A medical doctor with a Master’s in Public Health, she specializes in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics. Professor Bianco is the co-coordinator of the global campaign “Women Won’t Wait,” aimed at eliminating violence against women (VAW) and HIV, and served as Director of the Latin American and Caribbean Women’s Health Network from 1991 to 1999. She participated in the Rio, Cairo, and Beijing Conferences and their follow-ups, playing a key role in global women’s health advocacy.
Professor Bianco’s career includes serving as Chief of the HIV/AIDS National Program in the Ministry of Health (2000–2001) and coordinating World Bank projects. She was a member of the UNAIDS Reference Group on HIV and Human Rights from 2002 to 2011 and twice elected as an NGO member of the UNAIDS PCB. In addition, she co-chaired the CONGO CSW LAC and is a member of the Women’s Major Group (WMG) since 2014. Professor Bianco has been recognized by multiple organizations, including being named by Newsweek as one of the “150 women that moved the world.” She has authored 10 books and over 150 papers and articles, and in 2021, she was elected Co-Chair of the MGoS Coordination Mechanism.
